Open Submissions

Open Submissions and Proposals 

Pro Arts accepts artists’ and curatorial proposals that are innovative, exciting and engaging to diverse audiences in the Bay Area and beyond. All submissions are reviewed by our Curatorial Committee, which is composed of experienced arts professionals from diverse backgrounds. We are open to your ideas, though we unfortunately do not have the time and space to accommodate all the excellent submissions we receive.  However, we often schedule our studio visits and digital portfolio reviews, based on these open submissions.  We look forward to gaining a deeper perspective on your work!

Exhibition Proposals

Pro Arts’ Curatorial Committee reviews proposals for full-length exhibitions and temporary projects from artists and curators twice a year (Fall and Spring.) Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.

Application materials:

  • PDF with a proposal description (approximately 500 words)
  • Artist’s or curatorial statement
  • Current bio and C.V.
  • 7 – 10 images of artwork to be included in the exhibition/project

 

Submission Guidelines:

Please send your pdf proposal by email to info@proartsgallery.org. Please note that given the volume of submissions we receive, it can take us several months to respond. We request your patience during the review process.  We will notify all candidates with our decision after each Curatorial Committee review meeting.

Event Proposals

Pro Arts aims to present a diverse program of single events and curated series, featuring local and visiting musicians, sound and media artists, poets and writers, filmmakers, visiting scholars, and performing artists. Events take place within the context of visual art exhibitions, thus compromises are often necessary when it comes to event logistics. We especially encourage you to submit your event for consideration for one of our already established monthly series: the Hybrid Series and/or Performance series. Please explore our current calendar of exhibitions, programs and events and visit our archive page to gain deeper perspective of who we are and what we do.

Application Materials:

  • Brief description (250 words max) of the event
  • Include artists’ names
  • Links to documentation of past work (e.g. youtube, soundcloud, website)
  • A desired date for event (if applicable)
  • Contact information for you and/or your organization.

 

Submission Guidelines:

Email proposals to Associate Director, Sarah Lockhart, at sarah~at~proartsgallery~dot~org. No calls please. If you haven’t received a response in over 3 weeks, feel free to send an email reminder.
