WIGband does Earth Day 2017
The Sixth Extinction
“With the Universe we’ve toyed and now we are the Asteroid”
WIGband, created by Johanna Poethig and Barbara Golden in 1985, is a legendary, tasteless, feminist performance art cabaret duo from the Bay Area. WIGband responds to pertinent political points of the eras they have lived through, to the Presidents just elected or for years endured.
Terror grips the sane citizens of our nation as 45 rises to power and WIGband songs from previous republican presidents are dredged up and new stanzas added. With the Anthropocene upon us the lines are drawn and WIGband will sing again as they pound their penis spears at Pro Arts on EarthDay.
WIGband has produced dozens of songs and many short movies that through humor, aggressive sexuality and language explicitly satirize life’s everyday imposed conformities and across the globe obscene politics. WIGband’s Barbara Golden, fabulous at 75, a much married ex-housewife/schoolteacher has produced everything from a music/recipe book to works of experimental music. Johanna Poethig, daughter of missionaries, is an internationally known visual and public artist.
Pro Arts’ The New Situationists program is made possible with a generous grant from The Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation.
