About Civil Servants: Civil Servants follows the first year of young police officers in the police academy and on the beat in Eastern Germany. After simulating the “real world” inside the academy, they have to face quite a different reality: right-wing protesters who reject the state, democracy and immigrants; domestic violence; poverty; the general decay of structures in people’s lives. The young police officers are the thin blue line between the ideals of Western democracy and the threat of its decline.
