Pro Arts at Latham Square: Jill McLennan
1611 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland March 22, 2012 - September 14, 2012
Jill McLennan's evocative paintings and drawings observe life in the city with surprising affection for Oakland. This warm perspective is revealed by playful marks, bold color palettes, and viewpoints that contrast city skylines with intimate street-views of people living everyday lives.
Jill says her urban series consciously focuses on the peripheral; the intimate details, personal histories and diverse stories of the Oakland experience. Through my eyes, the city sparkles in the twilight of the moment, still and always moving, silent and always humming.
Jill has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Hampshire College in Amherst. The Oakland-based artist has exhibited her work at many local galleries including Mercury 20 Gallery, Berkley Art Center, Frank Bette Art Center and in juried exhibitions at Pro Arts. Jill is a founding member of the Jingletown Arts and Business Community.
The exhibition is on view weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm in the Latham Square lobby located at 1611 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. Admission is free.
