Workshop: Relax with Tax

Presented by California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) in conjunction with Pro Arts, Relax with Tax focuses on the essentials of income tax for individual artists and small arts businesses. Topics include: record-keeping, form 1040, Schedule C and self-employment schedule, deductions, hobby losses, home offices and more. The workshop will be held Saturday, March 3 at 1 pm and includes the tax workbook The Art of Deduction at no additional cost. Enrollment is $30 for Pro Arts and CLA members and $40 for non-members. Pro Arts is pleased to announce the Youth Fellows Initiative, a new program that provides mentorship, recognition and exhibition opportunities for young people in Oakland and the East Bay. In March, Pro Arts will award ten Youth Fellowships. The award includes: East Bay Open Studios registration, eligibility for the Juried Annual and New Visions exhibitions, an extended entry in The Directory of East Bay Arts, procurement of EBOS event space, mentorship with Pro Arts' Artists and more.

With Andrew K. Jacobson, Bay Oak Law. Presented by California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) in conjunction with Pro Arts, this workshop will discuss the legal and business concerns relevant to visual artists who are setting up or restructuring their businesses, such as formation, structure, marketing and insurance, as well as the top liability concerns for visual artists. Workshop fee is $10 for Pro Arts and CLA members and $20 for the public.

Youth Fellowship Nomination Deadline Fall 2007 (Late entries accepted space permitting) Extended

Pro Arts is pleased to announce the Youth Fellowship Initiative, a new program that provides mentorship, recognition and exhibition opportunities for young people in Oakland and the East Bay. Pro Arts aims to provide exhibition opportunities to 100 young artists as part of East Bay Open Studios and The Directory of East Bay Arts. In its start-up Pro Arts will award ten Youth Fellowships (18 & under).

Box Art Benefit Auction 2007

This annual art auction features works by member and guest artists, and a variety of arts and entertainment experiences. Experiences may include studio tours, customized artwork commissions, private demonstrations, and other experiences aimed toward artists and art enthusiasts. The theme of this years auction is "Paper" which includes traditional works on paper, such as etching, drawing, and photography to more unusual and experimental connections to the theme such as paper sculpture.

Taller Tupac Amaru is an Oakland-based printmaking studio dedicated to supporting community-based political posters. This exhibition features selections from the groups archive of limited edition silkscreen posters promoting a variety of events and causes.

Pro Arts' annual juried exhibition is based on digital submissions. Pro Arts has invited Curator Laura Hoptman, of the New Museum in New York, to serve as jury works submitted by member artists. Deadline for submission is December 12. Prospectus available here.
